About Us

Willoughby Distribution was established sometime in the 1940's by Nordica and Gregory Willoughby. What started as a small produce company grew into a restaurant supply company operating out of the St. Lawrence Market in downtown Toronto. With the renovations of the Market planned in the early 1970's, the company moved to its larger, newer location in North York, Toronto.

Over the years, Willoughby's product line shifted from groceries to cleaning supplies, disposables and beverages and became a distributor for such brand names as Dixie, Lily, T.J. Lipton’s, Sun Pac Foods and Reynolds Aluminium, to name a few.

Soon after the move to the new location, the company was sold to Stanley Megit, an employee who had spent 2 years learning the ropes. He was soon joined by his son Randall. The 1970's and 1980's brought growth again. In 1995, the company was purchased by Randall Megit and Stan retired.

The last 60 years have seen many trends in products coming and going, but what has stayed the same is the commitment to service and personalized attention.

Company Environmental Policy

Willoughby Distribution Inc. is a small foodservices distribution company and as such does not have the same amount of waste to dispose of as say, a manufacturing company. However, as a company we have been reducing and recycling paper before it was even fashionable. Outlined below are the measures that we take as a company and as individuals to save our environment.

  • We reduce usable paper (2nd sides of sheets) wherever possible
  • We recycle paper items in our office through the grey recycling boxes
  • We put our organic waste outside for collection once a week, including as much as possible that the city recommends (i.e. even used paper towels)
  • We put our glass bottles, plastics, and metal disposables out for collection
  • Most items that we purchase by the case also goes out by the case, but where we open boxes, we re-use the boxes to ship other items
  • We take the pallet wrap we get from pallets to a recycling depot on Cherry Street
  • We recycle the drums for our laser printer
  • Our chief delivery truck is operated on diesel fuel, which is more fuel-efficient
  • We turn of lights (except for security purposes) and turn down heat every night and weekend
  • We have storm windows which minimize heat loss

We are continually looking for ways at our office and homes to reduce waste. It's becoming something positive and fun to do!
